A couple Sunday nights ago we talked about “Vertical Communication: God and Us.” We discussed the importance of prayer and Bible meditation. We see this emphasis all throughout the word of God.
In the very beginning of the Bible, we see the power of the Word of God as He speaks all things into creation.
The Psalms create a beautiful imagery of God’s Word In the very first Psalm the one who reads the Word and Law of God is like a tree flourishing beside a nourishing river. In verses 1-3 it says,
“Blessed is the man who walks not in the counsel of the wicked, nor stands in the way of sinners, nor sits in the seat of scoffers; but his delight is in the law of the Lord, and on his law he meditates day and night. He is like a tree planted by streams of water that yields its fruit in its season, and its leaf does not wither. In all that he does, he prospers.” In Psalm 119:105 it says, “Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path.” Furthermore, we are told that we are able to be pure through the Word in Psalm 119:9-11, “How can a young man keep his way pure? By guarding it according to your word. With my whole heart I seek you let me not wander from your commandments, I have stored up your word in my heart, that I might not sin against you.”
Truly the Word of God can make complete and ready to do the work of God, “All Scripture is breathed out by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness, that the man of God may be complete, equipped for every good work” (2 Timothy 3:16-17).
Jesus’ words ring true that “Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that comes from the mouth of God” (Matthew 4:4 quoting Deuteronomy 8:3).
In my sermon I mentioned a resource called 5 Minutes with God. It is a very simple devotional book written by Brother Rusty Hills. Each day has a short reading, a paragraph long devotional message, a thought provoking question and then a space for a daily prayer list. All three volumes are available in print ($14.99) and kindle ($6.99) editions. This was originally included in a post on our church Facebook page, but I have included it here as well for those not on Facebook. Here are the links to 3 different volumes of this devotional book.
Volume 1 is focused on passages in the Gospels which cover the life of Christ. Here is the link: https://www.amazon.com/…/dp/1941972187/ref=pd_bxgy_14_img_3…
Volume 2 is focused on passages from Acts and the New Testament Epistles which cover the early years of the Church. Here is the link:
Volume 3 is focused on passages from the Old Testament. Here is the link:
I hope these brotherhood resources can be helpful for your daily walk with Christ. Please contact me for any additional questions at email@example.com.
