I would like for you to know a little about brother David Lipe, who is scheduled to hold our gospel meeting this year. As you will see from the biographical information below brother Lipe has been quite accomplished at directing sound and effective lectureship programs over the years. My knowledge of him has largely been through the lectures at Freed-Hardeman University during the years he taught there and served as the lectureship director. Brother Lipe is equally adept as a writer. Among his other works he authored two commentaries on the book of John, as part of the Truth for Today series issued by Eddie Cloer and Resource Publications.
We had brother Lipe at Mabelvale a few years ago to conduct a seminar on leadership. He did an outstanding job with that seminar, and we are very happy to have him back for a gospel meeting. We will all benefit greatly from his work in the gospel meeting. I know brother Lipe to be a simple and yet challenging proclaimer of the gospel. Please mark these dates on your calendar and plan to support this meeting with your prayers and attendance. We pray that nothing will occur in terms of an upsurge in Covid-19 cases that will interfere with this effort. Barring any such problems we are looking forward to having brother Lipe with us! – Dennis Gulledge.
David L. Lipe holds an A.A. degree and third year certificate from Freed-Hardeman University; a B.A. from Harding University, an M.A. from Harding School of Theology, a Ph.D. from The University of Tennessee, and an M.S. from The University of Memphis.
Lipe has been preaching since 1967 in Mississippi, Tennessee, and Alabama and been involved in mission campaigns in five foreign countries. He holds a number of gospel meetings each year and gives lectures on other occasions.
He is author of Values in Thought and Action and Religious Versus Secular Ethics—A Religious Response to Some Contemporary Secular Views of Ethics. He is co-author of the Lipe-Lewis Debate and Instrumental Music–Faith or Opinion. His 2-volume commentary in the Truth for Today Commentary Series, The Gospel of John is available for purchase from him or through Resource Publications. He has been the editor of the following lectureship books: Magnolia Bible College – 2 books; International Bible College – 1 book; Southeast Institute of Bible Studies – 7 books; Freed-Hardeman University – 22 books.
From 1990 to 2010 he was a professor of Bible and Philosophy at Freed-Hardeman University and continued to serve as the Director of the Annual Bible Lectureship through the 2015 lectureship. In 2012 Lipe became the Director of the Southeast Institute of Biblical Studies (formerly East Tennessee School of Preaching and Missions) in Knoxville, TN; he retired as director in December 2014 but continues to teach and work in fund raising and development for the school. Lipe and his wife, Linda, reside in Baxter, Tennessee; he preaches for the Cherry Creek Church of Christ in Sparta, Tennessee.
