Everybody loves the book of Proverbs. The book of Proverbs contains direction in the wisdom of life. This is not wisdom like that of Ben Franklin’s Poor Richard’s Almanac. This is divine wisdom covering the entire range of human experience.
On September 15th we will resume our All Comers Bible class for the fall session. I settled on the title, “Peaceful Paths – Studies in Proverbs” because of the book, Paths to Peace from Proverbs, by Joe R. Barnett and John Gipson, published in 1969. Even they borrowed from Solomon. “Blessed is the one who finds wisdom, and the one who gets understanding…Her ways are ways of pleasantness, and all her paths are peace” (Prov. 3:13,17).
If you feel like you need some peace in your world (and who doesn’t) please add this class to your list of priorities. We will use the hour to allow the peace of God to help our hearts and hopefully to rule our hearts. Let’s draw some peace from God’s Word, from one another and go out to be better peace makers!
The book of Proverbs makes for wonderful reading from start to finish. In a class setting, however, it is best to work through the book topically. Such an approach does not always lend itself to a verse-by-verse study of the entire book. The fall session is short allowing us only ten weeks for our study. We will work in the book of Proverbs addressing ten general topics. Below are the topics which I will cover:

  1. Cheerfulness
  2. Contentment
  3. Decisions
  4. Diligence
  5. Humor
  6. Friendship
  7. Humility
  8. In the Way He or She Should Go
  9. Friendship
  10. Lessons From Three Things, No, Four!

Some of these studies will involve opposites. For example, our study of humility will involve a look at pride. Also, the particular words employed for the titles of these studies may or may not appear in all the passages we will investigate. For example, the word “Cheerfulness” may be couched in terms we don’t expect.
The class will meet on Tuesdays at 10:00 am from September 15th through November 17th. For this fall session I have decided to change our location to the multipurpose room. We will have coffee available for those who might desire a cup. I know I will! I have decided to try a different arrangement and location, at least for this time, to see how it works. I will teach all of the classes for this session. Wayne has always been so good to work with me in teaching this class. He is an excellent teacher, and I really appreciate his assistance. Please join us and add some peace to your day beginning on September 15th!
