In our world, loud voices often get the most attention. Social media (and, in general, most media produced for our consumption) rewards outrage, arguments, and quick comebacks. But Scripture calls us to something different. Proverbs 15:1 reminds us:
“A soft answer turns away wrath, but a harsh word stirs up anger.”
It takes far more strength to answer gently than to shout back. Anyone can react in anger. It takes Spirit-filled patience to respond with kindness, to choose words that build up rather than tear down.
Jesus modeled this beautifully. He could silence His critics with truth, but often He spoke with a calm authority that disarmed rather than destroyed. His gentleness was not weakness—it was power under control.
This week, you’ll have opportunities to choose your words carefully. At work, at home, even with a stranger—you may face a moment where frustration rises. Remember: gentle words are not wasted words. They reflect the heart of Christ, and they open doors that anger would slam shut.
Let’s be known not just for what we say, but for how we say it. In a noisy world, a gentle word can sound a lot like Jesus.
